Student Athlete Eligibility

STUDENT ATHLETES ARE TO MAINTAIN A GPA OF "C" OR BETTER AND MAY NOT HAVE A FAILING GRADE IN ANY OF THE CORE SUBJECTS THROUGHOUT THE SPORTS SEASON. STUDENTS THAT DO NOT MEET THESE CRITERIA WILL BE CONSIDERED INELIGIBLE AND ARE TO SIT OUT GAMES UNTIL THEIR GRADES MEET THE REQUIREMENT.

1. FIFTH AND SIXTH GRADE TEAMS

CPS students are eligible to be a member on a 5th-6th grade team, if they are in the 5th or 6th grade and enrolled in the school.

2. SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADE TEAMS

CPS students are eligible to be a member on a 7th-8th  grade team, when they are in the

7th or 8th    grade and enrolled in the school.

3.  Student must have a health record on file with their school indicating that they have been approved to participate in physical education and athletic activities.

ELIGIBILITY - SPECIAL RULES

A. A student athlete in the 6 grade may compete on the 7th-8th grade team based on talent level, or if there is no 5th-6th grade team.  Students may not compete on more than one level.

If a student moves up to the 7th -8th grade level, he/she may not return to the 5th-6th grade level.

B. Students in the 7th or 8th  grades may not compete on a 5th-6th  grad e team.

C. Students in the 5th or 6th grade who will become 13 years old prior to January of the current year are to compete with the 7th/8th grade team.

D. Girls are eligible to participate on the boy's team when there is no girls’ team offered through the Department of Sports Administration in that same sport. For example, girls may participate in flag football and wrestling. If, however, a girl wishes to play on the boys’ soccer team (because there is no girls’ team), she would not be eligible. The burden is on the school to organize a girls’ soccer team to meet the demand of its female students. Schools are to actively promote girls’ teams.

E. Schools may add or delete student-athletes as needed in practice and regular season games. However, at the first game of regional competition, rosters become final and no changes may be made thereafter. All roster changes should be made in the on-line data base, with copy provided to your Area Manager, and official copy exchanged with opposing coach in advance of competition.
